What are Wedges Bakery's opening hours?

Our Hockley Heath bakery is open Monday to Saturday from 8:00am to 4:00pm, and Sunday from 8:30am to 3:00pm. Our Dovehouse, Solihull shop is open Monday to Saturday from 8:30am to 4:00pm, and Sunday from 9:30am to 3:00pm. Hours may vary on bank holidays.

Is there parking at Wedges Bakery?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Our Hockley Heath bakery has free parking at the front and rear of the shop. Our Dovehouse, Solihull shop has street parking available directly outside on Warwick Road.

Do you take card payments?

Accepted Answer

Yes — both shops take cash, Visa and Mastercard debit and credit cards, and contactless payments (including Apple Pay and Google Pay). There's no minimum spend on card. We don't currently accept American Express.

Can I sit in and eat?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Our Hockley Heath bakery has indoor and outdoor seating, and our Dovehouse Parade café in Solihull has a small sit-in area too. Everything on our menu can be eaten in or taken away.

Are dogs welcome at Wedges Bakery?

Accepted Answer

Well-behaved dogs on a lead are very welcome on our outdoor seating area at Hockley Heath — we'll happily bring a bowl of water out. For food-hygiene reasons, dogs aren't allowed inside either shop. Assistance dogs are of course welcome anywhere.

Neither shop has a public customer toilet — we're both compact village/parade premises focused on the bakery counter and a small sit-in area.

Do you have high chairs or baby-change facilities?

Accepted Answer

We have a high chair available at our Hockley Heath bakery for little ones eating in — just ask the team and we'll get it set up. We don't have baby-change facilities at either shop.

Is Wedges Bakery good for cyclists?

Accepted Answer

Our Hockley Heath bakery is a popular stop for cyclists riding the West Midlands canal towpaths and country lanes. We have outdoor seating, and our bacon sandwiches and coffee are the perfect mid-ride fuel. Cyclists are always welcome, muddy kit and all!

Is everything baked fresh at Wedges?

Yes. All our breads, sausage rolls, scotch eggs, cakes and pastries are baked fresh on-premises at our Hockley Heath bakery every morning by our team of bakers. The Dovehouse shop receives fresh deliveries from Hockley Heath daily.

Do you cater for dietary requirements and allergies?

All our food is freshly prepared on-premises in a kitchen that handles the major allergens (gluten, eggs, milk, nuts, sesame). If you have any allergies or specific dietary requirements, please speak to our team before ordering — we're happy to talk you through ingredients on any item, but we cannot guarantee an allergen-free environment.

Do you have gluten-free or vegan options?

Accepted Answer

We carry a small range of vegetarian and vegan items day to day (look for the V / VG markers on the menu), and we usually have a couple of items suitable for a gluten-free diet — but our kitchen is not a gluten-free environment. Please ask the team on the day for what's available and how it's prepared.

Our full menu — sandwiches, breakfast, hot food, cakes, breads and drinks — lives on our menu page, with allergen markers (V, VG, GF) shown next to each item.

Can I order a cake from Wedges Bakery?

Accepted Answer

We bake a wide selection of cakes, slices and pastries fresh every morning, displayed in the cabinets at both shops — pop in, choose what you fancy, and take it away or eat in. We don't take orders for custom or celebration cakes, but for catering platters (sandwich, savoury or sweet selections) please give us at least 2 days notice by phone or email.

No, we don't make bespoke, custom or wedding cakes to order. We focus on the freshly baked cabinet selection we sell every day at our Hockley Heath bakery and Dovehouse Parade café in Solihull. If you need something for a special occasion, our catering platters of sweet treats are a popular alternative.

Can I order a birthday cake to collect?

We don't take orders for personalised birthday cakes. The cakes you'll find at Wedges are our daily-changing cabinet selection — gateau slices, brownies, traybakes, tarts, scones and more — perfect for sharing on the day. Call your nearest shop ahead of your visit and we'll let you know what's in today.

Our cake cabinet changes daily depending on what our bakers have made that morning. You can usually expect classics like cake wedges, gateau slices, cheesecake, brownies, flapjacks, scones and pastries. Give your nearest shop a quick call before visiting if you have your heart set on something specific.

Does Wedges Bakery cater for events?

Yes, we offer catering for events, parties, office lunches and special occasions. We can prepare sandwich platters, savoury selections, cake platters and more. Please give us a minimum of 2 days notice and contact either location with your requirements.

How much notice do you need for catering?

Accepted Answer

We ask for a minimum of 2 days' notice on all catering orders so we can buy in fresh, prep and bake everything on the morning of your event. For larger orders or busy weeks (Christmas, Easter, school holidays), give us a week or more if you can.

Do you deliver catering, or is it collection only?

Accepted Answer

Catering platters are collection only, from our Hockley Heath bakery. Most customers find this works well for an early-morning pickup en route to the event — and it keeps the food at its freshest.

Wedges Bakery has been operating continuously since 1850, making us over 175 years old. The bakery was founded by Edwin Dyer in Hockley Heath and has been passed through four families, each maintaining our commitment to freshly baked, handmade produce.

Do you sell gift vouchers?

Accepted Answer

Yes — we sell paper gift vouchers in store at both shops in any value from £10 upwards. They can be spent on anything we sell at either location and are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase. Pop in and ask at the counter.
