What to Refuel With
There is a reason cyclists love a good bakery. A flapjack or a slice of cake is the perfect hit of quick energy mid-ride, while a sausage roll or bacon sandwich gives you something more substantial for a longer day in the saddle. Pair it with a strong coffee and you have the classic cyclist’s refuel. If you are riding on, we are happy to wrap something up to take with you for later in the route.
The Best Routes
The area around Solihull is blessed with quiet country lanes that are perfect for road cycling. Head south towards Henley-in-Arden and you are into proper Warwickshire countryside, with rolling hills and very little traffic. Loop out towards Lapworth, Baddesley Clinton, and Packwood for a scenic ride past National Trust houses and pretty villages, or push on to Henley-in-Arden and back for a satisfying morning’s distance.
If you prefer to stay off the roads, the canal towpaths offer flat, traffic-free riding that is ideal for families and casual riders. The Stratford-upon-Avon Canal runs right through Hockley Heath, so you can join the towpath just minutes from our door and ride as far as you like in either direction.
"Whether you are a seasoned road cyclist or a family out for a gentle towpath ride, Hockley Heath is the perfect halfway point."
So next time you are planning a ride through the West Midlands, put Wedges Bakery on your route. Your legs, and your stomach, will thank you.
